Soldering wires to connectors

I had to solder few wires to flat abiko connectors, like the ones in the picture.

I learnt a good way to solder wires to different kinds of connectors few years back. So I thought why not share it.

Basic idea behind this technique is to make use thin solid core wire and make a “spring” out of it. This will make the soldering connection much durable and rugged, but it also means a bit more work. Wire “spring” is made wrapping wire tightly over a drill bit that is a snug fit over the connector and wire combined. This is basically same technique as wire wrapping in the good old days of electronics.

After the spring is done it is put over the connector and the wire is pushed inside. Then the package is soldered together.
